Camp Fire Restoration Project Fruit Tree Giveaway

With a goal of increasing food security, reducing fire risk, and healing the land while building community connections, Camp Fire Restoration Project will be coordinating the planting of 500 fruit and nut trees to celebrate spring! Volunteers are being recruited now for planting on spring equinox weekend, Saturday, March 20th and Sunday, March 21st in shifts from 9 am to 1 pm and 1 pm to 5 pm. The trees, donated by Dave Wilson Nursery and Fowler Nursery, will be planted on properties within the Camp Fire burn scar, including schools, churches, and survivors nominated by Zone Captains. Although all trees have been spoken for, volunteers can sign up to help plant at http://campfirerestorationproject.org/plant-fruit-trees (or Upcoming Events -- Fruit Trees) or on CFRP’s Facebook page. All participants will be taught how to plant and care for a bare root fruit tree. Wayne Hill, CFRP member and Oroville 4-H Coordinator, said, “We’re grateful to receive and pass on this donation of peach, nectarine, cherry, pluot, walnut, almond, and many varieties of fruit and nut trees.” He continued, “We’re hoping that putting these trees in the ground and helping them grow into bountiful trees will encourage neighbors to share with neighbors and blossoms to grace Paradise, Magalia, Concow, and Butte Valley every spring.” Volunteers will be asked to sign up for shifts on Saturday and Sunday, with training and staging happening at Sol Sanctuary Ranch, 4791 Round Valley Ranch Rd., Paradise.
